Bell & Howell Model 1655a 16mm. Sound Projector
This is the Japanese made Bell & Howell 1655a with autothread facility, Bell & Howell 2" inch (51 mm.) f/1.2 lens. Has a 20 watt amplifier and 8 ohm 16 watt speaker. Can be used with integral external speakers (in cover) via jack socket or with its own powerful internal speaker. The 1655a has two brightness settings in forward, a powerful 250 watt dichroic quartz EMM lamp, microphone input, volume,and treble controls. It has a bright, steady picture.
Here is the actual projector illustrated working above. Fully transistorised amplifier. The film path has a 3 claw pull down which readily negotiates joins and splices in older prints, and a loop-restoring facilty. Accomodates 50 ~ or 60 ~ cycles 240/250 volts AC operation. (also 110/130/220 volts if required). The lamp is easily obtainable 24 v 250 w quartz EMM with integral dichroic reflector providing a brilliant picture. The projector mechanism has a metalic mat grey machine finish. The case and speaker/cover is of tough metal alloy. The spool arms extend to accommodate reels of up to 2200' ft. capacity. The film path has a loop-restoring facilty. Silent (18 fps) speed change is facilitated by a switch. The film path is readily accessible for manual threading or unthreading if required.
This projector had a new worm fitted shown in the picture above. Alignment of the archimedian worm screw and the two drive sprocket gears is crucial for correct positioning of the film loops, above and below the gate, and for autothreading.
